Tradición, origen y leyendas de los huevos de Pascuas

Hoy es domingo de Pascuas, además del significado cristiano de este día tan importante para los católicos, hay tradiciones que se conservan desde hace muchísimos años, una de ellas es regalar huevos de chocolate a la gente que queremos.

En casa tenemos también la costumbre de invitar a amigos y familiares y los más chiquitos pintan huevos duros, los ponen en canastitas y se los regalan a los grandes.

Después viene el conejito de Pascuas y esconde huevitos por el jardín y cuando les avisamos a  los chicos que ya paso el conejo, salen corriendo y felices con sus canastitas a buscarlos.

Es tan lindo verlos pintar los huevitos, con el amor con que los regalan y después la alegría cuando los encuentran en el jardín!!

Muchas veces los chicos me preguntaron por qué pasaba el conejo a dejarles huevitos, asique para responderles tuve que investigar un poco de donde viene esta tradición y hoy la comparto con ustedes por si sus hijos les hacen la misma pregunta.

Esta tradición viene desde hace muchos años desde las antiguas civilizaciones de Persia, China, Egipto, Grecia, Centro y Sudamérica, donde el huevo era el símbolo de la vida. Antes de que existiera la celebración judeocristiana, los huevos eran utilizados en los ritos y festivales de primavera y se regalaban o se intercambiaban, ya pintados o decorados.

Estas celebraciones festejaban precisamente el fin del largo y frío invierno, y el “renacimiento milagroso” de los árboles y flores.

El huevo al estallar con una vida dentro, se convertía en el símbolo de ese renacimiento.

Con la llegada del Cristianismo, el huevo se transformó en el renacimiento del hombre, al tiempo que la fiesta del equinoccio de primavera pagana se convertía en la fiesta de Pascua cristiana.

Del siglo IX a finales del siglo XVIII, la Iglesia Católica prohibió a los fieles comer huevos durante la Cuaresma pues los consideraba un alimento equivalente a la carne.

Debido a esto, la gente comenzó a conservarlos, y empezaron a cocerlos y pintarlos para diferenciarlos de los frescos y consumirlos finalmente el día de Pascua.

Así fue como se cree que esta costumbre fue introducida en el oeste del continente europeo. Más tarde, la tradición llegó a América con los misioneros. Se desconoce cómo los huevitos se convirtieron en el elemento más importante de las canastas de Pascua, pero existen muchas leyendas.

En la antigüedad, se creía que si una gallina ponía un huevo en Viernes Santo y se conservaba ese huevo durante 100 años, se convertiría en diamante.

O que si se encontraban dos yemas dentro de un huevo de Pascua, esto auguraría que la persona disfrutaría de una gran riqueza.

Para San Agustín, Obispo de Hipona y Doctor de la Iglesia, el huevo representaba la Resurrección y la inmortalidad de Cristo, así como la salvación del alma. Para él, partir un huevo de Pascua simbolizaba el momento en el que la enorme piedra que cubría el sepulcro se retiraba milagrosamente para que Jesucristo emergiera victorioso sobre la muerte.

Otra leyenda religiosa cuenta que había un pequeño conejo dentro de la cueva que utilizaron para darle sepulcro a Jesús. La historia dice que el animalito observaba cómo la gente que entraba lloraba desconsoladamente, y él también se entristeció.

El conejito decidió quedarse en el sepulcro aun después de que se colocara la piedra para cerrar la entrada, pues aunque no sabía exactamente de quién se trataba, sabía que debía tratarse de una persona muy importante y muy amada.

Al tercer día, el conejo fue testigo de un milagro: Jesús se levantó.

Entonces, el pequeño animal comprendió que se trataba del Hijo de Dios, y que la gente que lloraba tenía que saber lo sucedido, ya que Jesús había resucitado.

Como los conejos no pueden hablar, el conejo decidió llevarles un huevo pintado como mensaje de vida y regocijo. Desde entonces, se dice, el conejo sale todos los Domingos de Pascua a dejar huevos de colores para que la gente recuerde el día en que Jesús resucitó.

Hoy en día, para algunos, los huevos de Pascua siguen teniendo el significado religioso y místico de antes. Para la mayoría, son simplemente una diversión. Los chicos disfrutan enormemente al pintarlos y luego tener que encontrarlos.
